The trailer
for Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming colorblind remake of the Disney classic
Cinderella, starring Camila Cabello, has been released.

The first
trailer for the upcoming film Cinderella has been released on Amazon Prime
Video. It’s a unique perspective on the traditional fable that hasn’t been seen
before. The suffering princess is played by Camila Cabello, a Cuban-American,
while her Fairy Godmother is played by Billy Porter, an openly gay black
American actor.

The trailer
begins with an introduction to Ella, a young woman with meanies all around her.
She is ridiculed by her stepmother (Idina Menzel), who threatens to throw her
on the streets and also by her townspeople, who laugh at her desire to be a
seamstress, selling her own dresses one day.

Cinderella,
the Amazon’s Cinderella, wishes for a better life, one that she makes for
herself rather than one that is handed to her by a prince. When the king,
represented by Pierce Brosnan, organises a ball so his prince might choose a
good wife, an opportunity arises. All Ella can see is a way to show everyone
her dresses.

The envious stepmother, as planned, splashes
‘ink’ over her ambitions. But then came the Fairy Godmother, dressed in a
magnificent golden robe that glittered from head to toe. She makes a
magnificent and clumsy entrance to the ball, clad in a new gown and glass
slippers. When the prince proposes marriage, Ella tells him that she, too, does
not want to live in a gilded cage. More commotion ensues when the clock strikes
midnight and the stepmother’s tone shifts in the middle of the conversation.
The new adaptation has just as much theatrics, drama, and enchantment as the
original, if not quite as much tradition.

The film is directed by Kay Cannon. It also stars
James Corden, Minnie Driver, Missy Elliott, and others in special roles. It will
be out on September 3.
