Indian equity benchmarks ended sharply lower on Friday, with the Sensex and Nifty crashing nearly 2% each amid weak global market trends. Extending the losing streak for the third straight day, the Sensex plunged 1,093.22 points or 1.82% to settle at 58,840.79. During the day, the Sensex tanked 1,246.84 points or 2% to 58,687.17. The Nifty tumbled 346.55 points or 1.94% to close at 17,530.85.

The broader indices ended in red with the BSE Midcap index down by 2.85% and the Small cap index down by 2.38%. The top losing sectoral indices on the BSE were Realty down by 3.53%, IT down by 3.37%, Basic Materials down by 3.05%, TECK down by 3.03% and Auto down by 2.67%, while there were no gaining sectoral indices on the BSE.

Here are the key stocks that moved the most on September 16:

Vedanta: The stock price plunged 7.6% to close at Rs 290.15 after the company clarified that the proposed semiconductors business is not under it and would be undertaken by its holding company – Volcan Investments.

CSB Bank: Shares of the private sector lender jumped 2.44% to settle at Rs 234.80 after its board of directors had approved the appointment of Pralay Mondal as the Managing Director & CEO of the bank for a period of three years with effect from September 15.

IndusInd Bank: The stock gained 2.52% to close at Rs 1,226 after the re-appointment of Sumant Kathpalia as the Managing Director & CEO of the bank for a further period of three years with effect from March 24, 2023, up to March 23, 2026. This is subject to the approval of the Reserve Bank of India and the shareholders of the bank.

PVR: The share price fell 4.74% to settle at Rs 1,758 as Gray Birch Investment exited the multiplex chain operator by selling the entire shareholding of 22,06,743 equity shares at an average price of Rs 1,871.18 per share on September 16. Other investors Plenty Private Equity FII I and Plenty Private Equity Fund I also sold a stake in the company.

Tata Power Company: The stock price declined 3.55% to close at Rs 236.70 despite its subsidiary Tata Power Solar Systems receiving a contract worth Rs 612 crore for a 100MW ground-mounted project for SJVN in Gujarat. The project will get commissioned within 11 months from the date of receiving of letter of award.
