Telecom operator Vodafone Idea, on Monday, announced its new unified brand identity
and will be offering their services under the brand name ‘Vi’.

Addressing a media briefing, Ravinder Takkar, telco’s MD
and CEO, said, “The brand integration not only marks the completion of the
largest telecom merger in the world, but also sets us on our future journey to
offer world class digital experiences to 1 Billion Indians on our strong 4G
network. VIL is now leaner and agile, and the deployment of many principles of
5G architecture has helped us transform into a future-fit, digital network for
changing customer needs.”

The announcement comes a week after the Vodafone stated that
the company will not invest in fresh equity in India, where its net losses are calculated
to be at Rs 25,460 crore in the June quarter.

The brand name ‘Vi’ is not just an abbreviation for Vodafone and
Idea but it reads as ‘we’ and symbolises the unity ingrained in the Indian
culture. “It is not just about me, it’s especially about ‘we’,” the
Vodafone Idea CEO said.

On August 31, 2018, Vodafone India merged with Idea Cellular and
the new entity was renamed as Vodafone Idea Limited. Although the two telcos
merged, both brands continued with their individual identities untill now.

Nick Read, CEO of Vodafone Group, said, “As the integration of the two businesses is now complete it’s time for
a fresh start. That’s why we believe that now is the perfect time to launch Vi,
one company which combines the strengths of Vodafone and Idea. Vi’s focus will
be to deliver to citizens and businesses in India a superior network
experience, better customer service and leading products and services.”

Vodafone Idea has been struggling to keep its business afloat
with the SC asking the mobile operators to pay 10 % of their AGR
(Adjusted Gross Revenue)-related dues by March 31, 2021.

To celebrate the unification of the two brands, the company has
also launched a ‘Vi’ app. The app will allow users to get offers and even win
exciting gifts.
