The 30-share BSE Sensex slipped 89.14 points or 0.15% to close at 57,595.68. During the day, the highest level it touched was 57,827.99 and the lowest was 57,138.51. The broader NSE Nifty declined 22.90 points or 0.13% to settle at 17,222.75.

Among the sectoral indices, IT, oil & gas, pharma and metal indices rose 1% each, while bank closed 1% lower. BSE midcap and smallcap indices settle marginally higher.

Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL): The stock closed 43.25 points or 16.89% to close at Rs 299.30 after Invesco Developing Markets Fund, the largest shareholder of the company, said it won’t pursue its demand for an extraordinary general meeting to add six independent directors as Zee’s merger with Sony would reach the fund’s goal of strengthening board oversight.

Maruti Suzuki (MARUTI): The country’s largest carmaker’s shares closed 1.46% down at Rs 7,533.00 after the board in its meeting appointed Hisashi Takeuchi as managing director and chief executive director for three years with effect from April 1, 2022, till March 31, 2025.

Indraprastha Gas: The stock ended 0.71% higher at Rs 376.50 after the company hiked the price of domestic piped natural gas in Delhi by Re 1 per standard cubic metre (SCM) to Rs 36.63 per unit. The hike in PNG rates comes on the back of oil marketing companies (OMCs) raising petrol and diesel prices after a 137-day freeze.

Lupin Limited (LUPIN): The stock surged 25.90 points or 3.47% to close at Rs 772.20 after the pharmaceutical company in an exchange filing said that it had received the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for its Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) to market Sildenafil for Oral Suspension, 10 mg/mL, a generic equivalent of Revatio for Oral Suspension, 10 mg/mL, of Viatris Specialty LLC. The product will be manufactured at Lupin’s plant in Goa, India.
