Cristiano Ronaldo made a remarkable comeback to Manchester United after his departure from Juventus. This comes 12 years after he joined Real Madrid. According to Goal.com, Manchester United made a bid to bring the striker back for an initial £13 million (€15m/$18m) with add-ons of up to £7m (€8m/$9m).
During his first campaign at the Old Trafford, Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 games. He spent six seasons in the club and the Premier League and has various record to his name. Before leaving Real Madrid, he won a plethora of individual awards.
With his return to the Red Devils, here are few records that the Portuguese talisman might break during his second stint.
Number of goals
In 2007-08 Premier League season, Ronaldo scored a total of 31 goals and matched Alan Shearer's tally at Blackburn Rovers in 1995-96. However, this record was quickly toppled by Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, who scored 32 goals in 2017-18 season.
In the previous season with Juventus, Ronaldo scored 29 goals and won the Capocannoniere award. With his return, he would look to reclaim his title of most goals scored in a season.
Most goals by a Manchester United player in one season
During his first stint at Manchester United, he scored 42 goals in 49 appearances in the 2007-08 campaign across all competitions. But he is still behind Denis Law (46 goals) and Ruud van Nistelrooy (44 goals).
If his goal-scoring abilities are put into the equation, he might go all the way to get this title.
Most goals in a UEFA Champions League campaign
Ronaldo would seek to score the most goals in a UCL campaign by a Manchester United player. He is also the highest scorer in the UCL with 134 goals to his name. Apart from this, with 17 goals, he has the record of scoring the most goals in a single campaign.
However, he is yet to do it for the Red Devils. While Nistelrooy (12) stands atop the list of most goals scored by a United player in a UCL campaign, Ronaldo is placed 3rd with eight goals in 11 matches(2007-08).
Hattricks
Ronaldo has hit 57 hattricks in his career. Out of them, only one has come in the United colors. At Old Trafford, Wayne Rooney holds the record with eight. Sergio Aguero leads the all-time Premier League race with 12 to his name.
Number of goals in a single PL match
Five players - Aguero (against Newcastle United), Alan Shearer (against Sheffield Wednesday), Jermain Defoe (against Wigan Athletic) - have scored five goals in a single PL match. Although he has scored five in a match twice in La Liga with Real Madrid, he is yet to achieve this with Manchester United.
