The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday cancelled class 10 exams and postponed class 12 exams in view of rising COVID-19 cases in the country. While Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal welcomed the central government’s decision, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that a final decision must be taken for class 12.

“I am glad that the exams have been cancelled/postponed. This is a great relief for lakhs of students and their parents,” Kejriwal tweeted.
“Glad the government has finally cancelled the 10th standard exams however a final decision MUST be taken for the 12th grade too. Keeping students under undue pressure until June makes no sense,” Gandhi-Vadra wrote on the microblogging site.
The decision to cancel/postpone CBSE exams was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Delhi Education Minister and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia tweeted, “It’s a big relief to 30 lakh students, their parents and teachers. Cancellation/postponement of CBSE exam for 10&12 was being demanded by all of us since many days.”
The exams were scheduled to be held from May 4.
“The board exams for class 10 are cancelled. The result will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion developed by the board,” a Ministry of Education (MoE) official said, reported PTI.
