In view of uncertain conditions due to COVID and feedback obtained from stakeholders, the CBSE class 12 board exams have been cancelled, the Centre announced on Tuesday. The government further said that the class 12 results will be made as per well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the review meeting, officials gave a detailed presentation on the wide and extensive consultation held so far and views received from all stakeholders, including by the state governments.

“In view of the uncertain conditions due to COVID-19…it was decided that Class XII Board Exams would not be held this year,” an official statement read.

Commenting on the cancellation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “the decision to cancel Class-12 CBSE exams taken in the interest of students. Health, the safety of students of utmost importance, and there would be no compromise on that aspect.”A

“Anxiety among students, parents, teachers must end; Students should not be forced to appear for exams in such stressful situation,” he added.

“COVID-19 has affected academic calendar; a student-friendly decision taken after consultations across length and breadth of India,” Modi said.

“In case some students desire to take exams, option would be provided to them by CBSE once situation becomes conducive,” the government further added.

PM said that all stakeholders need to show sensitivity for the students as well as their parents and teachers.
