The CBSE Class 12 results were declared on Friday. The pass percentage is 99.37 and no merit list of toppers was announced this year as the exams were cancelled due to COVID-19.

This year’s results were calculated on the basis of the results of previous two
years as also the performance in internal assessments and pre-boards.

According to the evaluation policy decided by a 13-member panel set up by the CBSE for preparing Class 12 results, 30 % weightage was given to Class 10 marks, 30 % to Class 11 marks and 40 % to Class 12 marks obtained in unit test/mid-term/pre-board exams.

Last year, a total of 88.78 % of students had passed, which was an increase of 5.38 % from 2019. This had sparked a debate about the reliability of the assessment with the number 95 percenters also going up. Last year too, board exams were hit by the pandemic and the student could appear in only a few papers. The rest of the papers were again marked on internal assessments.

This year, the board  had asked schools to moderate marks in such a manner that the results are comparable. It has asked schools to make sure that no student suffered because of unequal application of policy. “To ensure comparability and fairness at a higher range of marks, schools should exercise due diligence and ensure that there is no bunching of total marks in the range of 95 and above,” CBSE said in a circular.  The number of students scoring 95 or more had to be restricted.

This year, in the absence of physical exams, the students did not receive any hall ticket or roll number. So the board had to devise a way to check results. The board activated the ‘Roll Number Finder’ window Thursday on the CBSE website where candidates could check and download their roll numbers.

Those students not happy with the evaluation system have an option of appearing for an exam.
