The Delhi High Court on Friday gave its nod to the Delhi University to conduct online open-book exams for final-year students as per the announced schedule. The high court has directed DU to provide the question paper to students over their email and also upload the same on its website. The exams are scheduled to begin from August 10.

Apart from this, the university has also been directed to give students an extra hour for uploading their answer sheets. Provision should also be made for an auto generated email confirming the receipt of answer sheet, the court said.

The Delhi University must declared the results of the online exams as soon as possible, the high court added.

Petitions were filed in the court against DU’s decision to conduct final year exams through online mode in the wake of coronavirus pandemic. The petitioners argued that the open-book exam violated the rights promised under Articles 14, 16 and 21 of the Constitution.

They further argued that DU’s decision to conduct online exams was discriminatory against several students who are in COVID-19 quarantine, stuck in areas witnessing floods or lack the basic infrastructure required.
