The admission procedure for foreign university admission is different in different countries and there is no perfect formula that guarantees admission to your desired university. However, there are some steps that you should follow to get into your desired school.

Choose your programme

The first step is to make your mind about where you want to study abroad and the area of your interest. You must also have the academic background to qualify. Consider your career prospects and then decide on a specialisation. Select a course that aligns with your goals. While selecting a university, consider its rank, reputation for your desired subject.

Read the criteria and deadlines carefully

After shortlisting the universities, check its criteria on its website and if the information is confusing to you or is insufficient, request more information from the schools. Check the deadlines to make sure that you don’t miss the admission or entrance exam deadlines.

Writing a cover letter

Most of the foreign schools ask students to write a cover letter explaining why they want to join the programme or why they should be allowed to join the course. The letter must include details about your ability to perform well at the institution, an evaluation of your skills, as well as your accomplishments. Write a clean and structured cover letter, and remember to use clear English when writing the letter.

Don’t forget to book the test at least one month in advance.

Use the online application platforms

Nowadays foreign universities tend to use online application platforms to make it easier for students to apply. Sending the documents electronically instead of by post is preferred by most schools and students as it is faster and usually less expensive or free.

Register for the entrance exam

Some countries and certain schools only allow students after entrance exams. Check the date and place of the exam and register in advance and if required, make a plan for your travel abroad. Take sample tests before the exam.

Prepare for interview

Some schools like the University of Oxford conduct interviews to find which candidates are more qualified to get into the school. The interviewee will ask you why you want to study the programme, your background and plans for the future. Practice for the interview and don’t stress you out.
