Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg on Tuesday took to Twitter to express discontent over Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) (Main) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) which will be held in September amidst coronavirus pandemic.

“It’s deeply
unfair that students of India are asked to sit national exams during the
Covid-19 pandemic and while millions have also been impacted by the extreme
floods. I stand with their call to #PostponeJEE NeetinCOVID,” the tweet said.

The National Testing
Agency (NTA) had announced earlier
, that competitive examinations, JEE Mains will be held from September 1 to 6 and NEET UG will be conducted on September 13. The
exams, which are held for admission to premier engineering and medical
schools of the country were re-scheduled in the wake of the ongoing
coronavirus pandemic.

The NTA said that adequate arrangements have been made to hold the exams, including
sanitisation of centres before and after exams and ensuring the supply of fresh
masks and gloves.

A plea, filed by a
group of students and parents, demanding postponement of JEE Main 2020 and NEET
2020
entrance exams, was dismissed by the Supreme Court earlier this week. The
court stated it cannot put the careers of lakhs of students in jeopardy since
the whole academic year is at stake.
