The 2022 FIFA World Cup draw took place in Doha, at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center, on Friday.

The World Cup draw for 2022 is bound to bring back some memories of earlier clashes: former winners Spain and Germany, who have faced each other in decisive games in several major tournaments, find themselves locking horns yet again in Group E.

Uruguay’s Luis Suarez, infamous for his handball save against Ghana in the 2010 FIFA World Cup quarter-final, will meet his old foes again in Group H, which also features the likes of Portugal and South Korea, neither of whom can be written off. Group H will also see Cristiano Ronaldo face off against his Manchester United teammate Edinson Cavani, in what promises to be an exciting match.

The match between Iran and USA in Group B, meanwhile, promises to be a politically charged one, especially in light of growing tensions between the two countries.

The Group A tie between hosts Qatar and the Netherlands also promises to be a charged one, especially in light of Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal’s criticism of the Qatar World Cup, and Qatar’s responses to the same.

Lionel Messi‘s Argentina appear to have gotten an easy draw, with Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and Poland in Group C, but the Argentina vs Poland match is likely to be goal fest thanks to the presence of the Argentine magician and Poland’s outlandish striker, Robert Lewandowski.

The winners of the last 2018 FIFA World Cup, France, have been drawn with Denmark, Tunisia, and the winners of the playoffs between Peru, Australia, and the UAE.

Five-time winners Brazil, meanwhile, have been drawn with Serbia, Switzerland, and Cameroon, in what should be an easy group for the star-studded team.
