With a potentially monumental Sunday ahead that could see Liverpool stay in contention for a historic quadruple, manager Jurgen Klopp downplayed the anxiety surrounding the run-in to the end of the season, and quipped about Steven Gerrard‘s motivation to hand the title to the Reds.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, the German said, “We have so many reasons to celebrate…we don’t know how many reasons yet but we know there are enough! The Carabao Cup, the FA Cup and whatever will come,” not ruling out a quadruple.

“I’m really happy that we can deliver what I promised at that time [2019/20], I said whenever it is possible to have a parade, now there is a parade. It’s all about us, what we want to celebrate. It’s not for other people and I couldn’t care less. It’s just for us, for Liverpool FC, for the people,” added Klopp, who recently extended his contract with the Merseyside club.

Klopp also went on to comment on a potential upset at the Etihad, where defending champions Manchester City host former Liverpool player Gerrard’s Aston Villa, rueing the midfielder’s absence from what could be a title-deciding fixture for the Reds.

“I can understand these situations only by thinking of myself in that role. If I would play a game and help Dortmund or Mainz, it would be, for me, extra motivation,” the German said, commenting on Gerrard’s motivation to get a positive result against Pep Guardiola‘s immaculate citizens.

“But I don’t play, and Stevie doesn’t play. That’s a shame. It’s much more of a shame that Stevie’s not playing than I’m not playing! Stevie will take it 100 percent serious, I’m sure, without me calling him or whatever,” Klopp added, hoping for a positive result for Liverpool at Manchester.

Klopp also provided a positive update on injured duo Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, saying, “It looks good, the boys look good and they’ve made steps.”

However, he did not confirm whether the talismanic duo would start for Liverpool on Sunday, saying, “We will see, my preferred solution is they could play at the weekend for rhythm reasons, or could at least be on the bench and can bring them on, or not.”

Liverpool, who are a point behind Manchester City, host Wolves on Sunday, while the Citizens face Villa in their own backyard. With the title race down to the wire, anything but a win for either side will cost them the Premier League.
