Bhagwant Mann, Aam Aadmi Party’s chief ministerial candidate, will be taking oath for Punjab’s top office on March 16. Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP won 92 out of 117 seats in Punjab, sealing a landslide victory.

The comedian-turned-politician said in his victory speech on Thursday that the oath-taking ceremony would be held in Khatkarkalan in Nawanshahr district, the ancestral village of Bhagat Singh at 10:30 am. Traditionally, the ceremony is hosted at Raj Bhawan.

Delhi Chief Minister and National Convenor of AAP Arvind Kejriwal has also been invited to the oath-taking ceremony on Wednesday, media reports suggest. The two also have a roadshow scheduled for Sunday in Amritsar.

Mann contested from Dhuri constituency and won by more than 58,000 votes and beat Congress MLA Dalvir Singh Goldy.

A day after the Assembly election counting concluded, Mann met Kejriwal in New Delhi. The over-an-hour-long meet was also attended by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and AAP in-charge of political affairs in Punjab Raghav Chadha.

“My younger brother Bhagwant Mann will take oath as the chief minister of Punjab. Today he came to my house to extend an invitation to the oath-taking ceremony. I am sure that as a chief minister, Bhagwant will fulfil every expectation of the people of Punjab,” Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi. He also shared a picture of the meeting.

Talking to reporters in Sangrur before leaving for the national capital, Mann said he would meet Kejriwal to congratulate him on the party’s victory in Punjab elections. On the party’s resounding poll victory, Mann said, “The people defeated arrogant persons and they made the common people victorious.”

Nearly a month before the election, AAP launched the “Janta Chunegi Apna CM” initiative, giving the people of Punjab an option to choose their own CM candidate from the party. Mann got 93% of the votes in the process.
