Bollywood actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who currently has all eyes on her haute couture ensembles at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, recently shared why she has been off the cinema radar since 2018.

After walking the red carpet at the film festival, Bachchan, who was dressed in a black flowery ball gown, spoke to Film Companion and shared details of her highly-anticipated acting comeback.

The 48-year-old described herself as a “proverbial tortoise” since the beginning of her career, who “will focus on her work and trudge along at a pace which is right, which is real, which is committed.”

“What happened in the last two years was a natural pause that we all took. I’ve always been someone to keep it real, that’s who I am, that’s my sense of prioritising. It’s been a really challenging two years, and my natural instinct is to focus on reality. I’ve never been one to play into the expectation of, ‘Oh my God, is time flying by, why is there no release this year, how many releases do you want to put out, what is the kind of comment it might attract, what is the kind of perception it might attract’, I’ve never been one to play into perception,” she told the entertainment platform.

Bachchan, who last starred ‘Fanney Khan’, will next be seen in Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan’.

Praising the Indian filmmaker, she said, “When he came and said, ‘You know this is something I wanted to make right at the beginning”. I’m like I’m so privileged and so blessed that he asked me to be a part of his dream. I think just to begin at that in itself is so fulfilling. And then of course the experience has been superlative as always and you work with a talent like him and the talent that he naturally brings together each and every time”.
