On June 2, A. Manimekhalai was appointed as the managing director and chief executive officer of Union Bank of India for three years.
Manimekhalai is a Master of Business Administration (MBA) graduate from Bangalore University, who also passed the Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB) exam, a test for bankers which is conducted by the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance.
She began her banking career in 1988 by working in Vijaya Bank for several years as branch head, general manager, regional head and functional head of several departments at the office.
In 2019, when the bank was merged with Bank of Baroda, she was appointed as the executive director of Canara Bank for a period of three years. Last year in the month of August, her contract was extended by two years.
At Vijaya Bank and Canara Bank, Manimekhalai performed several roles and ensured the smooth functioning of processes like strategic planning, policymaking, liaising, and setting organizational goals and objectives.
