The Dragon Bridge spans the Hàn River in Da Nang, Vietnam.
The former Prime Minister of Vietnam, Nguyen Tan Dung, and several high-ranking government leaders attended the launching event on July 19, 2009 (the same day as the opening of the neighbouring Thun Phc Bridge).
The Dragon Bridge is 666m long, 37.5m wide, and contains six traffic lanes. On March 29, 2013, it opened to traffic at a cost of about VND 1.5 trillion dong (US$88 million). Ammann & Whitney Consulting Engineers in the United States collaborated with the Louis Berger Group to plan the bridge. Company No. 508, an offshoot of Civil Construction Engineering Corporation No. 5, and Bridge Company No. 75 were in charge of construction.
On October 26, 2012, the main span was completed. The bridge reopened to traffic on March 29, 2013, the 38th anniversary of Da Nang’s freedom.
This contemporary bridge spans the Han River at the Le Dinh Duong/Bach Dang traffic circle, giving the quickest road link from Da Nang International Airport to other major routes in the city, as well as a more direct connection to My Khe Beach and Non Nuoc Beach on the city’s eastern outskirts. The bridge was planned and fashioned in the shape of a dragon. Every Saturday and Sunday night at 9 p.m., it breathes fire and water.
