Answer: Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji, also known as Fugaku, is located on the Japanese island of Honshu. It stands 12,389.2 ft tall and is the highest mountain in Japan. It is also the second-tallest island volcano in Asia, after Sumatra’s Mount Kerinci.

Mount Fuji is also the seventh-tallest peak of an island on the planet.

It is an active volcano that had its last eruption between 1707 and 1708. Located about 100 km away from Tokyo, the mountain is visible to the naked eye on clear days. The mountain, with its symmetrical shape, experiences snowfall for almost half a year, and is used as Japan’s cultural symbol in photography and art.

Mount Fuji is often visited by climbers for thrill, and devotees for its religious significance. It is one of Japan’s three holy mountains along with Mount Haku and Mount Tate.

The mountain has “inspired artists and poets and been the object of pilgrimage for centuries,” according to UNESCO, which added Mount Fuji to its World Heritage List as a Cultural Site on June 22, 2013.
