Amazon Quiz (May 14, 2022): On May 25, 2020 who among these died due to violence from a police officer, that led to widespread protests such as this?
Answer: George Floyd
The protests spread to the capital Washington DC, where some anti-social elements engaged in vandalism, leaving former US President Donald Trump enraged.
According to former US defence secretary Mark Esper, the protests left a fuming Trump demanding the deployment of 10,000 active duty US military troops on the streets of the capital. Trump also allegedly wanted the protesters shot.
"The president is ranting at-- at the room. He's using a lot of, you know-- foul language. You know, "You-- y-- you all are f-in' losers," right? And then he says it to the vice president, Mike Pence. He-- he's usin' the same language and he's lookin' at Pence," Esper told CBS' '60 Minutes' in an interview, describing the situation in the briefing room during the protests in the capital.
" --he didn't-- he didn't call him directly, but he was looking at him when he was saying it. And it really caught my attention, and I thought, that-- we're at a different spot now. He's [Trump] gonna finally give a direct order to deploy paratroopers into the streets of Washington, D.C. And I'm thinking with weapons and bayonets. This would be horrible," Esper further said.
"He says, 'Can't you just shoot them? Just shoot them in the legs or something.' And he's suggesting that that's what we should do, that we should bring in the troops and shoot the protesters," the former defence secretary added, explaining what Trump wanted.
Trump, however, has denied all such allegations.
