In March, President Ram Nath Kovind presented the President’s Colour to INS Valsura. In an impressive parade, Lt Arun Singh Sambyal received the award on behalf of the unit.
For the President of India, the battalion paraded a 150-man Guard of Honour. More than 800 officers and men from the INS Valsura marched proudly to the tunes of the Naval Band.
The occasion was graced by Shri Acharya Devvrat, the Hon’ble Governor of Gujarat, Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral MA Hampiholi, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command.
President Ram Nath Kovind, on the occasion, hailed and praised the officers and sailors of the INS Valsura for their professionalism and commitment to protecting our maritime borders. He also thanked the crew of the INS Valsura for their exemplary contribution to the country over the past 79 years.
He also emphasised the Indian Navy’s critical position as the Indian Ocean Region’s “Preferred Security Partner,” and asked the men in white to continue their selfless and loyal service to the country. In an era of constantly changing technology, the Hon’ble President wished the personnel of the INS Valsura well, encouraging them to achieve even higher heights. To honour the event, President Kovind issued a unique postal cover.
“The legacy of INS Valsura dates back to 1942, when the operational necessity mandated creation of an advanced Torpedo Training Facility to enhance the firepower of the Royal Indian Navy during World War-II. Post India becoming a Republic, the unit was renamed as INS Valsura on 01 Jul 1950. Thereon, INS Valsura has transformed itself into an epitome of professional technical training and has exponentially grown to keep pace with the Indian Navy’s modernisation plans,” Ministry of Defence said in a press release.
