Answer: Ukraine

Built on the banks of the Dnieper River’s Kakhovka reservoir in Enerhodar, Ukraine, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station is Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, which features six reactors, each generating 950MW, for a total output of 5,700MW. This output is enough to power almost 4 million homes. Built in Ukraine between 1984 and 1995, it generates one-fifth of Ukraine’s electricity.

In March this year, Russia attacked the nuclear power plant, leading to a huge fire.

“Russian army has opened fire on Zaporizhzhia NPP. No state except Russia has ever opened fire at nuclear power units. For the first time in human history, a terrorist state has resorted to nuclear terror. Only immediate European action can stop Russian troops,” Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a video address at the time.

Ukraine foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba on Twitter warned. “Russian army is firing from all sides upon Zaporizhzhia NPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. Fire has already broke out. If it blows up, it will be 10 times larger than Chornobyl! Russians must IMMEDIATELY cease the fire, allow firefighters, establish a security zone! (sic)”

Mikhail Podolyak, the advisor to the Head of the Office of President of Ukraine, uploaded a video of the attack on Twitter.

“Zaporizhzhia NPP is under fire! Entire Europe is at risk of a repeat of the nuclear catastrophe. Russians must stop the fire!” he captioned the video.
