Answer: March of the Penguins

Luc Jacquet directed and co-wrote March of the Penguins, a 2005 French feature-length wildlife documentary co-produced by Bonne Pioche and the National Geographic Society. The documentary follows the annual migration of Antarctica’s emperor penguins. All penguins of breeding age (five years old and older) leave the ocean in the autumn to trek inland to their ancestral breeding grounds. The penguins there engage in courtship, which, if successful, results in the hatching of a chick. Both parents must make repeated laborious voyages between the ocean and the breeding grounds over the next few months for the chick to survive.

Laurent Chalet and Jérôme Maison, two lonely cinematographers, spend a year making the documentary, which was shot around the French research outpost of Dumont d’Urville in Adélie Land.

Buena Vista International released March of the Penguins in France on January 26, 2005, and Warner Independent Pictures released it in the United States on June 24, 2005. The documentary received the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2006. On June 1, 2010, the film was released on home video in France as part of the Disneynature collection. Arctic Tale, a 2007 sequel to the documentary, barely grossed $1.8 million globally at the box office. In 2017, Disneynature published March of the Penguins 2: The Next Step (aka March of the Penguins 2: The Call) in France. On March 23, 2018, it was released exclusively on Hulu in the United States.
