Andy Murray – a British tennis player knocked out of the Wimbledon a few hours ago – has collaborated with celebrity nail artist Michelle Humphery to create limited-edition designer nails to celebrate the Grand Slam event.

The nails, say the creators, are gender-neutral and intended for everyone.

Wimbledon, a grass-court tennis tournament held in Britain every summer, began this week and has seen packed stands as fans return to watch the game after two years of the pandemic and social distancing.

Andy Murray is a two-time Wimbledon champion and Olympic gold medallist. Michelle Humphery counts singers Dua Lipa and Katy Perry as clients.Fans can get their nail art in manicures offered at a special nail bar set up at Wimbledon. They have launched four designs, all traditionally associated with the tournament. There is a strawberries and cream pattern, a tennis ball, a tennis net and an abstract that celebrates the purple and green of the Wimbledon logo.

Humphrey told the Stylist that the idea was to give fans a souvenir they could take home. She said they tested many different designs, but “nailed it down to four”. Andy Murray got a manicure from Humphery and is said to have offered to paint her nails on the day of the shoot.

35-year-old Murray’s own celebration of Wimbledon was short lived this year; he crashed out in the second round on Wednesday, defeated by American John Isner. This was Andy Murray’s earliest Wimbledon exit in 14 outings. He won the championship in 2013 and 2016.

Murray has also won a US Open title in 2012 and featured in several Australian Open and one French Open final. He is the only tennis player ever to win two Olympic golds, winning them back to back in 2012 and 2016.
