Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been struggling in IPL 2022. The two have scored 236 runs in 13 matches and 218 runs in 12 games so far. Their average of 19.67 and 18.17 has been a major concern for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians.

Amid all the questions raised on their forms, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly backed the two, saying he is not worried. Kohli has scored only one half-century this season. His best score of 58 runs off 53 balls came against the Gujarat Titans. Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, is yet to cross the 50-run mark.

When asked about their lean seasons keeping the upcoming T20 World Cup in mind, Ganguly, in an interview with Mid-day, said, “I’m not worried at all about the form of Rohit or Virat. They are too good…real big players. The World Cup is far away and I am quite confident that they will be in top shape much before the tournament.”

The T20 World Cup will be held in Australia in October-November.

Ganguly further said that he is impressed with Umran Malik and Kuldeep Sen’s performance in IPL 2022.

Malik, who plays for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, has picked 18 wickets this season in 12 games. Rajasthan Royals’ Kuldeep Sen has taken eight in seven matches.

“How many can bowl at 150 km? Not many. I won’t be surprised if he gets picked for the national team. We have to be careful in using him, though. Umran is the fastest. I also like Kuldip Sen. Also, T Natarajan has made comeback. We will have Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. Finally, it is up to the selectors,” Ganguly said.

“I’m very happy to see the dominance of the bowlers. The wickets in Mumbai and Pune are very good and they are extracting good bounce. The spinners are bowling well besides the speed merchants,” he added.
