Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was attacked by a man during an event in his hometown Bakhtiyarpur, Patna. The suspect was caught on CCTV camera and has been arrested and is in police custody, NDTV reported, citing sources.

The CCTV footage shows that Kumar was attacked when he was about to pay his respects to the statue of Shilbhadra Yaji at at the local Safar hospital complex. 

Yaji, an activist from Bihar, was associated with the non-violent and the violent form of the Indian independence movement.

The man could be seen walking up on the dias and hitting the Bihar chief minister on the back. The  Janata Dal (United) leader had bent to make a floral offering to the statue. Security personnel immediately captured the attacker.

Some videos posted on social media showed the man being escorted off by the police.

Nitish Kumar was attacked in November 2020 when he was  campaigning in Bihar’s Madhubani for the state elections. Kumar became the Chief Minister of Bihar for the fourth straight time when his party got 43 seats in all. On the other hand, BJP managed the sweep 74 seats.

In 2020, Kumar was talking about jobs at a rally in Harlakhi, when the crowd hurled onions. 

“Khub feko, khub feko, khube feko (keep throwing),” the Chief Minister had said.

Kumar is tourning the segments of  his old Lok Sabha constituency Barh.
