The Cannes Film Festival is an annual event that gathers thousands of filmmakers, actors, critics and industry experts to celebrate cinematic works from all around the world. 

This year, Cannes will commence on May 17 and conclude on May 28. 

Jury president

French actor Vincent Lindon has been appointed as the jury president of the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. In 2015, he won the Best Actor award at the film festival for Stéphane Brizé’s ‘The Measure of a Man’. He also starred in the 2021 film ‘Titane’, which bagged the festival’s Palme d’Or award.

This year’s jury comprises eight renowned people from global cinema who have previously won awards and have walked the Cannes red carpet. 

1. Deepika Padukone

Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone will be a part of the jury this year. She has starred in critically-acclaimed films like ‘Padmaavat’, and ‘XXX: Return of Xander Cage’.

2. Rebecca Hall

Rebecca Hall is a British actor and director who has starred in films like ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’ and ‘The Prestige’. She made her filmmaking debut with ‘Passing’. The romantic drama premiered at the Sundance Festival in 2021. 

3.  Noomi Rapace

Noomi Rapace is a Swedish actor who featured in the 2021 film ‘Lamb’, directed by Valdimar Jóhannsson. The film was selected in  Un Certain Regard, a category in the Cannes Film Festival. 

4.  Jeff Nichols

Jeff Nichols is an American screenwriter and filmmaker. He made his Cannes debut with his second feature film ‘Take Shelter’. In 2011, the film bagged an award at the Cannes’ International Critics’ Week.

5. Asghar Farhadi

Asghar Farhadi is an Iranian writer and director. His most recent film, ‘A Hero’, won the Grand Prix award at Cannes’ 2021 edition.

6. Jasmine Trinca

Jasmine Trinca is an Italian filmmaker and actor. Her debut feature film ‘Marcel!’ is up for screening this year at the festival.

7. Ladj Ly

Ladj Ly is a French actor and filmmaker who made his 2019 debut at the Cannes with his movie ‘Les Misérables’. The film was the winner of Cannes’ Jury Prize. 

8. Joachim Trier

Joachim Trier is a French actor and filmmaker, who just like Nichols, made his Cannes debut in the year 2011. Trier made his debut with ‘Oslo’.
