Cassidy Hutchinson will be testifying at the surprise hearing scheduled by the January 6 committee on Tuesday afternoon, according to multiple media reports citing unnamed sources. Hutchinson is a former aide of Mark Meadows, the ex- White House chief of staff.

Two people familiar with the January 6 committee’s proceedings told Politico that Hutchinson will be testifying publicly on Tuesday, which will be the sixth hearing conducted by the House Select Committee investigating the Capitol attacks.

It is not clear why Hutchinson’s appearance has been fast-tracked or if she would be part of a larger panel on Tuesday. The January 6 committee usually announces the names of witnesses days before it schedules a hearing.

Hutchinson has already presented her testimony to the House Select Committee and answered questions about his former boss Mark Meadows, who himself dodged a subpoena from the investigating panel.

Hutchinson told the committee that Meadows had received potential warnings of violence on January 6. She also described how the White House counsel’s office cautioned against Trump’s plans to enlist fake electors in swing states, including in meetings attended by Meadows and Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani.

The unexpected hearing, scheduled for 1 PM Tuesday, was announced with 24 hours’ notice while lawmakers are away from Washington on a two-week recess. The committee had said last week that there would be no more hearings until July.

The subject of the hearings is so far unclear, but the panel’s announcement on Monday said it would be “to present recently obtained evidence and receive witness testimony”, Associated Press reported.

Two hearings were scheduled by the January 6 committee for next month. Lawmakers said last week that the two July hearings would focus on domestic extremists who breached the Capitol that day and on what Trump was doing as the violence unfolded.
