Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ss. Olish has won the Chandel assembly constituency beating Langhu Paulhring Anal of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) by margin of 27,341 votes. 

Chandel assembly constituency has Ss. Olish of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) taking on Langhu Paulhring Anal of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) this year in the Manipur assembly elections.

Letpao Haokip of the NPEP had won the Chandel seat in 2017 when the INC swept Manipur winning 28 of Manipur’s 60 assembly seats. Haokip had beaten his closest rival Ts Warngam by over 2,125 votes. Warngam had contested that election on an independent ticket.

In 2012, the seat was won by St. Nunghlung Victor of the NPF. 

Chandel falls under the Chandel district and the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, which is made up of 28 assembly seats.

Lorho S. Pfoze of  Naga People’s Front represented Outer Manipur as a member of Parliament in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Pfoze defeated Houlim Shokhopao Mate from the BJP with a margin of  73,782 votes.

The Chandel assembly constituency voted in the second phase of the Manipur elections on March 5, 2022, along with 21 other constituencies. 

Results will be declared on March 10, along with those for elections in four other states, including Uttar Pradesh.
