Cheteshwar Pujara is in great form in
the County Championship in England. Playing for second division side Sussex,
Pujara hit his second double hundred on Saturday. And with this double ton, he reached the triple figures in three consecutive matches.

Resuming his innings on an overnight
score of 128 against Durham at Hove, Pujara went on to register the second
double ton of his ongoing stint in the county cricket on the third day of the
match.

The Indian cricketer gets help from Pakistan’s Mohammad
Rizwan after Sussex lost five wickets for 350 runs. The Indo-Pak duo shared a
150 runs partnership for the sixth wicket. Rizwan scored 79 off 145 balls.

Pujara took 330 balls to complete the double ton. However, just after scoring the double hundred, the Indian was stumped by N Eckersley off Trevaskis.

Pujara, who was dropped from the Sri
Lanka home Test series owing to his poor form since 2019, opted for county
cricket to get his form back ahead of India’s upcoming one-off Test against
England in Birmingham.

With Pujara back in form, it will be
difficult for selectors to overlook him. He now has scored three hundreds
including a double century in his five innings.

Since he made his debut for Sussex,
Pujara had scored 6 and an unbeaten 201 to help his side draw the match against
Derbyshire. He then followed it up with 109 in the first innings against
Worcestershire. Sussex lost the match by 34 runs. In the second innings, he
scored 12.

The veteran batter was dropped from the
Indian Test team following the series loss in South Africa earlier this year.

In international cricket, Pujara last
scored a hundred – 193 – in January 2019 against Australia in Sydney. Since
then he could score only a handful of half-centuries.

In India’s tour of England last summer,
Pujara scored a valiant 91 in the Leeds Test when the rest of the Indian
batters struggled to negotiate England pacers. India lost the match by an
innings and 76 runs.

However, India would take a 2-1 lead in the series with the fifth Test getting postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The fifth
Test will now be played from July 1 to 5 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
