China has recently witnessed a surge in Covid-19 infections during the upcoming
Beijing Olympics, with 34 new cases detected among athletes and personnel on Saturday.
139 positive cases have been confirmed in totality.

To tackle the spread, China has implemented stringent measures including
isolation for every person associated with the Olympics.

Furthermore, the country has cancelled nearly
all international flights. Athletes are required to directly travel to Beijing
via charter flights. Once they land, sportspersons and other personnel are prohibited
to be in contact with the general populace.

Participants and personnel will remain inside a
bubble called the close loop, barring their travels in the city. Although, they are
allowed to move between Olympic venues and accommodations via transport facilities
managed by the Beijing Olympics Committee.

The country has fully inoculated 90% of its population and
continues to be one of the only countries to follow a zero-Covid policy.

China will continue to exercise its intolerant approach throughout the year, in spite of its sporting events.

With the Beijing Olympics
right around the corner, a number of arrivals have tested positive for the
virus.

23 out of 857 Olympic-related arrivals have contracted the virus. Thirteen of them are
sportspersons or team officials while 10 of them are stakeholders in the Games.
