Ivanka Trump, daughter of former US President Donald Trump, is slated to testify, Tuesday, to the January 6 panel, as the investigation turns to Trump’s inner circle, AP reported citing sources.

Trump’s testimony will come after that of her husband, and former presidential advisor, Jared Kushner. The January 6 panel was set up to investigate the former president’s role in inciting supporters to storm the Capitol. In 2020, Trump refused to accept his defeat in the presidential election, to Joe Biden and urged that the vote should be overturned.

His demands sparked violence in Washington, leaving five dead. However, Trump still maintains that the election was stolen from him and even hinted at a presidential pardon for Jan 6 rioters, if the former Republican president returned to power.

Even as the news of Ivanka Trump’s upcoming testimony has emerged, the Jan 6 panel indicated that it might not subpoena then-Vice President Mike Pence to deliver his testimony. The chairperson, Bennie Thompson, indicated Pence wouldn’t have anything necessary to add that the panel doesn’t already know. Speaking to CBS, he said “There’s no effort on the part of the committee to get him to come in. If he wants to come, we initially thought it would be important. But … we know the people who tried to get him to change his mind, about the count and all of that. So what is it we need?”. However, there are those on the committee who’d still have Pence testify.

Trump initially accused Pence of not exercising his power as VP to overturn the results. The latter has maintained that his power to preside over the vote-counting doesn’t give him the ability to reject or alter results, a fact supported by the US Constitution.

However, Trump has stuck to his version of events and his followers bought into the narrative as well, as evidenced by the chants to hang Mike Pence, which echoed during the Capitol riots.
