Police in Dorset, England, are perplexed after being unable to locate a guy who allegedly fell from a 100-foot cliff and then fled before anyone could aid him.

According to reports, the man was drunk when he fell from the cliff near Hengistbury Head on Monday evening.

Members of the public who saw the drunk man wandering around the cliff’s edge contacted emergency services. Even after scanning the surrounding region with a helicopter, they were unable to locate him.

Southbourne Coastguard investigated the incident but was unable to locate the inebriated man. Dorset Police, on the other hand, verified that he had “self-recovered and left the area” before the coastguard arrived.

“The joint rescue coordination centre was tasked at 1616 hours to reports of what looked to be an intoxicated individual over the cliff at Hengistbury Head,” Southbourne Coastguard said on social media.

“With a short scan of the cliff face from Double Dykes with binoculars to see if any further casualties were in difficulty and with the NPAS helicopter presently above, nothing was detected,” the message continued.

The coastguard used binoculars to search the cliff face from double dykes for evidence of casualties but found none.

“With a cursory search of the cliff face from Double Dykes with binoculars to see if any further casualties were in difficulty and with the NPAS helicopter presently above, nothing was found,” Southbourne Coastguards wrote.
