The SpaceX CEO turns 51 today and his mother shared a throwback picture of him as a baby to wish his son on this special day. Elon Musk started from an online business directory Zip2 to a space exploration company SpaceX. He has created various successful business ventures and he inspires the younger generation of budding entrepreneurs. Elon Musk was born in the year of 1971. As a child, he used to dream of building fast cars and rocket ships. As a billionaire, he has turned his dreams into reality.

  1. Acquisition of Zip2 by Compaq. Elon Musk and his brother together founded the online business directory. It was an online alternative to the paper yellow pages. The sold the company for over $300 million to Compaq Computer Corporation. 
  2. Elon made his first billion after selling the company Zip2. He used $10 million of the price and co-founded an e-payment company named X.com . After a merger of the company it was renamed to PayPal. In 2002, eBay purchased PayPal and Elon Musk earned $180 million from the sale. 
  3. Elon Musk used $100 million money received from the sale of the company PayPal. He used it for SpaceX. The goal of him and his company was to make spaceflight cheaper by a factor of 10. As the company grew towards its success, it had further received many contracts from NASA. By 2015, SpaceX had made 24 launches on various assignments of NASA. 
  4. Tesla, an electric vehicle company, was founded by Martin Eberhard and Marc Trepanning. In 2003, Elon Musk did a funding for the company and in the next year he joined as a chairman in the company. In 2007, Elon Musk took over as the CEO of the company. 
  5. In 2015, Musk founded OpenAI. It is a nonprofit organization dedicated for the research on artificial intelligence. 
  6. Musk had an idea for a solar energy company so he gave the capital and responsibilities to his cousin Peter and Lyndon. In November 2016, Tesla’s $2.6 billion acquisition of SolarCity was completed. 
  7. Neuralink was another research venture that Musk co founded. It was done in 2016 with a goal of working on brain-machine interfaces that can be directly embedded in the human skull. 
  8. In 2022, Musk became a major shareholder in Twitter. He made an offer of $44 billion to acquire twitter. The deal has not been completed yet. If the deal works, Musk decided to make Twitter an arena of free speech, and make the algorithms open source to increase trust, and defeat the spam.
