Manchester City on Tuesday confirmed that they have come to an agreement with Borussia Dortmund on Erling Haaland’s transfer. As per the deal, the Norwegian striker will join the Etihad-based club on July 1.

City, after a disappointing Champions League campaign, are eyeing their third Premier League title in four years. Pep Guardiola’s men sit on top of the points table, leading arch-rivals Liverpool by three points. They will play the Wolves on Thursday.

Favourites for the PL glory this year, City have already taken a big step towards filling Sergio Aguero’s, who left for Barcelona before retiring, shoes. Haaland is currently one of the most exciting No 9s and comes to England after scoring 85 goals in 88 appearances for Dortmund since joining the Bundesliga giants in January 2020.

“Manchester City can confirm that we have reached an agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of striker Erling Haaland to the Club on 1st July 2022. The transfer remains subject to the Club finalising terms with the player,” the Premier League giants tweeted.

“Everybody knows the situation. I shouldn’t talk because I don’t like to talk about the future or next season. Borussia Dortmund and Man City told me I’m not allowed to say anything until it’s completely done,” Guardiola said at the press conference on the eve of his side’s match against Wolves.

City are tipped to secure Haaland’s services for €60 million ($63 million) for a five-year contract. The Norway national represented RB Salzburg before joining Dortmund in 2022. His father Alf-Inge played for City from 2000 to 2003.
