‘Fargo’ returns for Season 5 and the FX show has now lined up the cast. Jon Hamm, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Juno Temple star in the upcoming instalment of the popular anthology series.

Typical to the nature of the Noah Hawley-created series, details remain scant at the time. However, the network has released the character names. Temple plays Dot, while Hamm appears in the role of Roy and Leigh steps into the shoes of Lorraine.

The new season comes over a year after Season 4, which stars Chris Rock, ended. The fifth season will be set in 2019. This is in keeping with the show’s pattern of alternating between events that happened in the recent past, and those which were set quite ahead in time. For example, the Chris Rock-starring gangster feud in Season 4 was set in the 1950s.

Season 5 comes with a logline saying “When is a kidnapping not a kidnapping, and what if your wife isn’t yours?”. This draws some parallels to the original ‘Fargo’ film, directed by Ethan and Joel Coen. The series is set in the same universe as the movie. However, without more plot details, drawing parallels between the original film and the upcoming season is futile.

At present, Temple appears in ‘Ted Lasso’ and ‘The Offer’. She’s also been part of features like ‘Maleficent’ and ‘Atonement’.

Hamm for his part is best known for ‘Mad Men’ and recently enjoyed success being a part of ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘. Hamm has some other interesting works as well, including ‘Good Omens’.

Finally, we have Leigh, who appears in the next season of ‘Hunters’. However, the Prime Video series doesn’t have a release date yet. The actor also won an Oscar nomination for ‘The Hateful Eight’.

Hawley is attached as an executive producer, along with Warren Littlefield, Joel and Ethan Coen, Steve Stark, Kim Todd and Vincent Landay. No release date has been set yet.
