Food delivery platforms Zomato and Swiggy experienced a countrywide outage on Wednesday caused by a “technical glitch”. The glitch is said to be the result of an error in Amazon Web Services, a management firm that several online companies heavily rely on.
Since the outage, multiple users have flooded social media platforms with reports and complaints about being unable to browse or order food items.
The social media handles of both companies have responded to the complaints.
“How come @swiggy_in @SwiggyCares and @zomatocare stopped working at the same time,” one Twitter user asked.
Swiggy then responded, “Hi there. We’re currently unable to process your request as we’re experiencing technical constraints. Not to worry, our best minds are on it and we’ll be up and running soon.”
Another user asked, “Is Zomato down? In this economy? Second time this is happening to me since yesterday by the way.”
Zomato responded, “Hi, we are facing a temporary glitch. Please be assured our team is working on this and we will be up and running soon.”
Another Twitter user said, “Hey @zomato, @zomatocare seems like the android app has crashed. I am unable to track my order. Been trying from past 5 mins.”

The two food delivery platforms, with a value of $10 billion each, continue to rule the country’s online food delivery market. Recently, both companies have faced scrutiny by the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
On Monday, the commission stated that it has demanded a probe to verify if the companies are “neutral”, news agency Reuters reported.

The order comes months after the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), which represents over 500,000 restaurants across the nation, asked the CCI to look into the companies over doubts of breaching neutrality and prioritizing some eateries and contractors.
However, both the firms have denied the allegation.
