- Pillen secured more than 83,000 votes in the primary elections
- Carol Blood won by a margin of nearly 70,000 votes
- Trump-backed Charles Herbster lost the elections
Jim Pillen won a crowded Republican primary race in Nebraska for the upcoming governor's race. Pillen's victory on Tuesday also meant that former President Donald Trump faced his first setback in the primary elections.
Charles Herbster, who was backed by Trump for the elections, managed to secure more than 75,000 votes. His top competitor Pillen received over 83,000 votes.

Brett Lindstrom, another Republican lawmaker from Nebraska, secured nearly 65,000 votes and came in third. Pillen, a hog farm owner and veterinarian, defeated a total of eight challengers on Tuesday.
The Democratic primary was won by Carol Blood with a significant margin. She went up against Roy Harris, a candidate who did not actively campaign, and received more than 81,000 votes. Roy Harris got just over 10,000.
Pillen is expected to score big in the midterm elections in November this year. The odds are stacked against Carol Blood, who will run to become the first female governor of Nebraska in over three decades. Moreover, Nebraska has not elected a Democrat as governor since 1994.
Pillen was endorsed by many top Republican leaders in the state, including governor Pete Ricketts, former governor Kay Orr, and renowned former University of Nebraska football coach and Congressman Tom Osborne. Ricketts was prevented by term limits from running again.

Charles Herbster's defeat on Tuesday is mainly being attributed to a string of sexual harassment allegations, media reports suggest. A report from the Nebraska Examiner claimed that Herbster had at least six sexual harassment allegations tied to him.
The women who spoke to Nebraska Examiner said that Herbster had groped their buttocks, outside of their clothes, during political events or beauty pageants. A seventh woman said Herbster once cornered her privately and kissed her forcibly. Herbster filed lawsuits against some of these women in an attempt to dismiss the allegations.
