Pep Guardiola’s Premier League victory is bound to assuage the hurt from the Champions League loss against Real Madrid, in the semi-finals. The Spanish manager emerged the victor after his side made a miraculous comeback, being two goals down against former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa.

Speaking after the match, Guardiola noted “We are legends. When you win four in five then it’s because these guys are so special. We will be remembered.”

The City team seemed to be losing till the 76th minute but two goals from Ilkay Gundogan, and one from Rodri, within five minutes, gave the currently better Manchester squad their sixth title in 11 campaigns.

Guardiola’s chest-thumping about scripting history also holds water, considering the bulk of the City squad has remained together since the Spanish coach took over in 2016, moving from Barcelona.

The 51-year-old continued, “We won with 100 points, second one at Brighton, winning at home with our people is the best”, adding, “Four Premier Leagues in five years is probably the best achievements we have done in our careers.”

Guardiola also ended up praising the City crowd, who had been raucous all game, after the team fell behind by two goals, and then ended up storming the pitch when their side won the PL title. Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen was assaulted during this field invasion.

“The last game is always special, a lot of emotions. The moment we scored the goal it changed everything”, the Spanish coach said, adding, “I told them it is normal, but you have to handle it. Oleks gave us a lot in the second half. We scored the goal and got the momentum and our fans did the rest.”

Guardiola continued, “It was the best atmosphere I have lived since I came here. Tomorrow we can celebrate together in the Manchester streets with cigars and beers.”

He also devoted some time to recognize his Liverpool counterpart, Jurgen Klopp, whose side gave City a chase for the Premier League title right up to the last game, and take on Madrid in the Champions League final too.

“I’ve never seen a team like Liverpool in my life”, Guardiola asserted, adding, “I know it’s tough, but they helped us become a better team season by season.”

He continued, “We want to win. I have the feeling that the rivals are tough and they will be more tough next season.”

However, Guardiola and City who had a gruelling season wanted to hang up their boots, at least for the night, with the coach concluding “Today I have no energy to think about next season. We are champions again! We will defend our crown again and again.”
