A gunman opened fire at a July 4 parade in Highland Park, Illinois, killing at least six and injuring 24. Chicago, however, has been witnessing numerous shootings over the July 4 weekend. As per the city police, at least 55 people have been shot, seven of them fatally, during this time. 

In 2021, 19 people were killed and over 100 shot at, over the long weekend. Here are the fatal shootouts this year, over the weekend. 

Chinatown shootout 

As per the city police, a woman was killed and a gunman among two others was injured after a shootout in Chicago’s Chinatown, on Friday night. 

Grand Crossing shootout 

Three people were shot in a backyard in Grand Crossing on the South Side, on Sunday. One man, 24, was shot multiple times in the body and pronounced dead at the scene, as per the police. Two women were also shot, but they survived.

Englewood shootout 

A man was fatally shot on Friday, in Englewood on the South Side, Bullets hit in the arm and head, and the man was declared dead after being taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center. 

West Garfield Park shootout 

A 29-year-old was shot multiple times in the 4300-block of West Van Buren Street and was pronounced dead when he was taken to the Stroger Hospital. 

Brighton Park shootout 

A man in the passenger seat was hit in the neck by gunfire and was pronounced dead at the scene.

South Shore shootout 

A man on a bike was fired at from a dark sedan, and it hit him in the head and arm. Upon being taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, he was pronounced dead. 

West Humboldt Park shootout

A man sitting outside a residential building was shot fatally in the chest and head and pronounced dead after being taken to the Stroger Hospital.

Chicago Lawn shootout 

A man in South Kedzie Avenue was attacked by someone who stepped out of a dark-coloured vehicle. He took multiple gunshot wounds to the head and was later pronounced dead. 

On Monday morning too, there was a shooting in Parkway Gardens that left five men wounded.
