The International
Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday announced the schedule for the upcoming 2022
edition of the T20 World Cup. The tournament will be played in two stages – the
First Round and the Super 12. Sri Lanka, who won the 2014 edition, will take on
Namibia in the inaugural First Round fixture to get the tournament underway on
October 16. The final is scheduled for November 16.  

The Super
12 round begins with a repeat of the 2021 final as hosts and defending
champions Australia take on New Zealand on October 22. India and Pakistan have been
drawn in the same group, with the arch-rivals set to face each other in their
inaugural fixture at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on October 23.

Two-time
champions West Indies have been placed in the first round, where they will
contest with eight other teams for a place in the Super 12.

In the first
round, four qualifiers will join Sri Lanka, West Indies, Namibia and Scotland
in two groups of four teams each – A and B. The top two teams from each group will
advance to the Super 12 round to join the eight teams who have already
qualified.

The Super
12 teams have been divided into two groups of six teams each.

Group 1
consists of Australia, New Zealand, England, Afghanistan will be joined by the
winners of group A and runners up of Group B. India, Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh,
winners of Group B and runners up of Group B have been placed in Group 2.

There are a
total of seven venues for the tournament, with Kardinia Park in Geelong to host
six matches – all of them in the opening week’s First Round. Hobart’s Bellerive
Oval will host nine games, six in the First Round and three in the Super 12.

The rest of
the Super 12 matches will be played at the following stadiums – Adelaide Oval,
The Gabba, Perth Stadium, Sydney Cricket Ground, Melbourne Cricket Ground.
