India
U-19 men’s team registered a comprehensive 326-run against Uganda in their
third and final Group B match in the ICC U-19 World Cup in West Indies on Saturday. It was
India’s highest margin victory in terms of runs in the ICC U-19 World Cup. Raj
Bawa scored a record 162 not out and Angkrish Raghuvanshi 144. Nishant Sindhu
picked four wickets. With three wins in three games, the Indian boys topped
Group B and will play the quarterfinals on January 29.

Opening
the innings, Indian openers Raghuvanshi and Harnoor Singh Pannu shared a 40-run
innings. Harnoon was dismissed for 15. But Raghuvanshi slammed 144 off 120
deliveries, which included 22 fours and four sixes.

It
was then the 16-year-old Bawa played a magnificent 162 run innings to break
Shikhar Dhawan’s 18-year-old. In the 2004 U-19 World Cup in Bangladesh, Dhawan
scored 155 against Scotland. It was then the highest score by an Indian batter
in the ICC event.

Overall,
Bawa’s 160 not out is the eighth-highest individual score in U-19 World Cups
with Sri Lanka’s H Boyagoda still leading the list with his knock of 191
against Kenya in the previous edition of the tournament.

India
had set a 406 runs target for Uganda, who were bowled out for just 79. The
Hrishikesh Kanitkar-coached side thus ended the league stage with three wins in
as many games, having earlier thrashed South Africa U19 (by 45 runs) and Ireland
U19 (by 174 runs).

Previously,
when Dhawan scored 155 India defeated Scotland by 270 runs. Third on the list
of biggest wins (in terms of runs) for India U-19s is their 245-run win over
Papua New Guinea in 2014, which saw Sanju Samson scoring 85 and helping India
gather 301/6 on the scoreboard. In response, PNG was all out for just 56 at
Sharjah.

India’s
win is overall the second-highest win after Australia’s 430-run win over Kenya
in the 2002 edition of the Under-19 World Cup. The Aussies had posted 480 for
six before bundling out Kenya for just 50 at Dunedin.
