Rohit Sharma
has enjoyed a flying start since being appointed as India’s full-time, leading
the side to three consecutive home series wins in T20Is. Saturday’s seven-wicket
win
in the second T20I against Sri Lanka in Dharamsala was also India’s 11
consecutive win in the format.

India are
just one win away from levelling the all-time record, held by Afghanistan and
Romania, and the Men in Blue will be keen on adding another feather to its cap
ahead of this year’s T20 World Cup in Australia.

However,
Sharma is also on the cusp of a personal T20I record. Already the leading
run-scorer in the format, with 3,308 runs, the Indian skipper is just 18 short
of amassing 1,000 runs as captain.

Sharma will
become the 10th player to reach the milestone, with Australia’s Aaron
Finch having scored the most runs (1,802) while playing as captain. Sharma will
join Virat Kohli (1,570) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (1,112) as the only Indian to
have scored over 1,000 T20I runs as captain.

The
34-year-old, who will lead India for the 28th time in T20Is, could
also become the second-fastest to reach the milestone. Only Pakistan skipper
Babar Azam has scored 1,000 runs in the format as skipper in fewer innings (26),
breaking Kohli’s then record (30) last year.

Meanwhile, if
India win the third and final T20I against Sri Lanka, it will be their 17th
win in the format against the islanders, the most for any side against a
particular opposition.

Shreyas
Iyer (74) and Ravindra Jadeja (45) led India’s onslaught against the Lankan
bowlers on Saturday, adding 56 runs from just 28 deliveries to seal the series
with 17 deliveries and seven wickets to spare. Sanju Samson also scored a handy
39.
