Firefighters%20dedicate%20their%20lives%20to%20the%20protection%20of%20people.%20Countless%20hours%20volunteered%20over%20many%20years%20is%20dedicated%20by%20the%20fighters.%20In%20all%20cases%20it%20risks%20the%20ultimate%20sacrifice%20of%20a%20firefighter%u2019s%20life.

International%20Firefighters%20Day%20was%20announced%20after%20the%20incident%20that%20occurred%20in%20Linton%2C%20Australia.%20The%20incident%20occurred%20on%20December%202%2C%201998%2C%20five%20firemen%20were%20killed%20while%20trying%20to%20douse%20a%20wildfire.

To%20honour%20the%20brave%20firemen%20and%20to%20others%20who%20lost%20their%20lives%20while%20performing%20their%20duty%2C%20it%20was%20proposed%20that%209th%20January%20should%20be%20celebrated%20as%20International%20FireFighters%20Day.%20However%2C%20the%20date%20May%204%20was%20chosen.

One%20of%20the%20main%20reasons%20for%20IFFD%20is%20fire%20prevention%20and%20to%20improve%20intensive%20and%20thorough%20training.%20People%20and%20communities%20across%20the%20world%20show%20their%20gratitude%20by%20donating%20money%20to%20a%20charity%20supporting%20former%20firefighters%u2019%20medical%20treatment%20and%20wellbeing.
