Andre Russell bowled just one over on
Saturday and that single over was enough to dismantle Gujarat Titans. Though
his four wickets for 5 runs came in the losing cause, it was enough for him to
finish as Kolkata Knight Riders’ highest wicket-taker and achieve a few
records.

Russell started his over with the wicket
of Abhinav Manohar and got Lockie Ferguson caught on the next delivery. Rinku
Singh was the catcher on both occasions.

Alzarri Joseph, however, denied Russell
a hat-trick by taking a single on the third delivery. Rahul Tewatia found a gap
on the fourth delivery and hit a boundary. He was caught by Rinku Singh on the
fifth ball. The over ended with Russell grabbing a stunning straight catch from
Yash Dayal.

With these four wickets in a single
over, the KKR all-rounder became the only bowler to scalp four wickets in a
single over spell in T20 cricket. He is now the first pacer to dismiss four
batters in an over in IPL.

One of the players retained by KKR
before the IPL 2022 mega auction, Russell will now have a crucial role to play
with the bat as well.

KKR are chasing a target of 157 against
the Hardik Pandya-led side. For GT, Pandya top-scored and hit 67 off 49. David
Miller scored a 25-ball 27 before being dismissed. With the ball, Tim Southee
played a key role and scalped crucial wickets of Shubman Gill, Pandya and
Rashid Khan.

In reply to a modest 157 runs target,
KKR lost openers Sam Billings and Sun Narine at the very onset of their
innings. Mohammed Shami picked up both wickets. KKR were soon reduced to 34 for
4 as Yash Dayal dismissed Shreyas Iyer and Lockie Ferguson got the scalp of
Nitish Rana.

Rinku Singh provided some resistance
scoring 35 before being dismissed by Dayal in the first ball of the 13th over.
As KKR lost wickets in regular intervals, Russell showed hope by playing a
25-ball 48 runs innings. The all-rounder smashed six sixes and a four but his
dismissal in the last over by Alzarri Joseph turned out to be the game-changer
in a rather low scoring game.

This was KKR’s fifth defeat in 8
matches. They are now placed 7th on the points table.
