Dwayne Bravo
of the Chennai Super Kings took his 150th IPL wicket tonight in the 33rd match
against the Mumbai Indians at DY Patil Stadium. Dwayne Bravo outplayed Daniel
Sams to take Mumbai’s seventh wicket. Dwayne Bravo, 38, is aging like fine wine
and having a stellar 2022 season in which he has yet to go wicketless in a
match.

Bravo’s
penchant for snatching huge wickets at important times has landed him in the
wickets once more this season. He has twelve wickets in seven IPL 2022
appearances for CSK, making him the team’s leading wicket-taker. The veteran
maintained his strong form by taking two wickets against opponents he enjoys
playing against.

In 22 games against MI, the Caribbean all-rounder has 35 wickets at an economy rate of less than eight. During the powerplay, Mukesh Choudhary cannoned through the Mumbai Indians’ top order, dismissing Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan for ducks. In the first three overs at the DY Patil Stadium, he dismissed Dewald Brevis for seven runs, reducing Mumbai to 23/3. Mitchell Santner exacerbated the situation by grabbing Suryakumar Yadav’s prized wicket. Kieron Pollard was also dismissed soon, but Tilak Varma, a Mumbai teenager, produced a brilliant half-century to rescue the squad.

Bravo presently ranks first on the leaderboard with 171 wickets. He already holds the record for the most wickets in T20 cricket, with 571 in 522
games, 120 more than nearest contender Imran Tahir.

Indian
spinners including Amit Mishra and Piyush Chawla had opportunities to surpass Lasith Malinga’s record, but they did not play enough games in the IPL 2021 to do so.
Mishra appeared in four IPL 2021 matches for the Delhi Capitals, taking six
wickets to bring his career total to 166. However, he did not sell at the IPL 2022
auction.

Bravo appeared
in only six matches during CSK’s terrible IPL 2022 season, but the veteran
bowler picked up 14 wickets in 11 matches during their winning streak last
year, receiving accolades from former captain MS Dhoni for his death-bowling
performance.
