a forgettable ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign in the UAE. The ongoing Indian
Premier League will be crucial in determining who will be on the plane to
Australia for the T20 World Cup. Many players who did not make the squad last
year have volunteered to play for Australia in 2022.

As the 15th
edition of the IPL enters its second leg, here’s a look at how the retained
players have performed for their respective teams during the current season.

Gujarat
Titans

Before the
IPL mega auction, the Gujarat franchise selected three players: Hardik Pandya,
Rashid Khan, and Shubman Gill. Titans skipper Hardik Pandya has set a good
example, scoring 308 runs, including three fifties, and taking four wickets.
Rashid Khan, Pandya’s deputy, has also put in an excellent all-round
performance, taking nine wickets with his leg-spin, and amassing 71 runs at an
exhilarating strike rate of 197.22. Gill has made some starts, but the elegant
right-handed batter hasn’t been among the runs lately. Gill has 260 runs scored
in nine games, including two fifties.

Lucknow
Super Giants

KL Rahul,
Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi were signed by the Lucknow Super Giants. KL Rahul,
the captain of Lucknow, has led from the front; the stylish batter is second on
the Orange Cap list with 451 runs, including two tons and four fifties.  Stoinis, who joined the team after a few
games, is having a good season. So far, the Australian all-rounder has only
scored 90 runs and taken a single wicket. Bishnoi, a young leg-spinner, has
eight wickets in ten games.

Rajasthan
Royals

Sanju
Samson, Jos Buttler, and Yashasvi Jaiswal remained with the Rajasthan Royals.
So far, Rajasthan captain has been hot and cold, scoring 298 runs in 10 games,
including two half-centuries. So far, Buttler has been the IPL’s toast. With
588 runs, including three centuries, the swaggering batter leads the Orange Cap
race. Jaiswal was dropped after a string of poor performances; the youngster
managed only 25 runs in three games.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers
Hyderabad
retained New Zealand captain Kane Williamson as well as two uncapped
Indian players, Abdul Samad and Umran Malik. Williamson is having a poor IPL
season, scoring 195 runs in nine games. Abdul Samad was benched after two
games. Umran Malik is lighting up the IPL with 15 wickets in nine games and a 90-mph
speed merchant.

Royal
Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore retained former captain Virat Kohli,
as well as destructive middle-order batter Glenn Maxwell and speedster Mohammed
Siraj. Kohli is most likely in the midst of a slump in his career. In ten
games, the former India and RCB captain has only scored 186 runs. Maxwell, too,
has had a disappointing IPL so far, scoring only 157 runs in 10 appearances.
Siraj’s performance has been subpar as well, with only eight wickets in ten
games.

Delhi Capitals

Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi
Shaw, and Anrich Nortje remained with the Delhi Capitals. Pant has a strike
rate of 149.04 and has scored 234 runs. Delhi’s captain, on the other hand, has
yet to score a half-century in the tournament. Axar Patel, an all-rounder, has
145 runs at a strike rate of 166.67 but has only four wickets in nine games.
Prithvi Shaw, the team’s opener, has 259 runs in nine games with a strike rate
of 159.88. Anrich Nortje, who is injured, has only played one game, and has
failed to pick up a wicket.

games with a strike rate of 175.97. He had also taken ten wickets. Varun
Chakravarthy, KKR’s mystery spinner, has only four wickets in eight games. Iyer
of Madhya Pradesh has only scored 132 runs in nine games. He has yet to take a
wicket. Sunil Narine, who has been a mainstay of the KKR bowling attack for
years, has seven wickets in ten games with an impressive economy of 5.25.

Punjab Kings

Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh
remained with the Punjab Kings. PBKS captain Mayank Agarwal has also been
struggling, having scored only 161 runs in eight games. Arshdeep, a left-arm
seamer, has only three wickets in nine games, but the crafty seamer is turning
heads with his excellent bowling in the death overs.

Chennai Super Kings

Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali,
and Ruturaj Gaikwad remained with the Chennai Super Kings. Ravindra Jadeja, who
stepped down as CSK captain in the middle of the tournament, is struggling with
both bat and ball. He has only scored 93 runs with the bat and has only taken
five wickets with the ball. MS Dhoni is having a good season with the bat,
scoring 140 runs in nine games, including a fifty. Moeen Ali was dropped after
five games because he only scored 87 runs with the bat. He didn’t get a single
wicket. Ruturaj has recovered from a shaky start to the tournament. In nine
games, the Maharashtra opener has scored 237 runs, including two
half-centuries.

Mumbai Indians

champion Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Kieron Pollard.
Skipper Rohit Sharma has only 155 runs in nine games and has yet to score 50
runs. In nine games, Bumrah has only five wickets. Yadav has 290 runs in seven
games and a strike rate of 147.21. Pollard, a Mumbai Indians veteran, has only
125 runs to his name with the bat and three wickets to his name in nine games.
