KL Rahul, captain of Lucknow Super Giants, has been fined for
maintaining a slow over-rate against Mumbai Indians in the 37th match of IPL 2022
on Sunday. This is the second time Rahul and his teammates have been fined
under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences. Lucknow
Super Giants captain, KL Rahul was fined Rs 24 lakh while the rest of the
members in the playing XI were fined Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their match

“The Lucknow Super Giants have been fined after they maintained a
slow over rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against
Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 24,” an official
release stated.

Rahul on Sunday smashed 103 not out off 62 balls against Mumbai Indians
as Lucknow Super Giants won the match by 36 runs.

It was his second hundred of IPL 2022. His first hundred of the season –
also an unbeaten 103 – also came against Mumbai Indians. Rahul is the only
batsman to have scored a century against the same team in both home and away
games in a single season.

In the first delivery of the 20th over bowled by Riley Meredith, Rahul
launched it over midwicket for six and completed his second hundred of IPL
2022. Rahul scored an unbeaten 103 off 62 balls in the match. To score the
hundred, he sent 12 boundaries past the fence and four sixes. Rahul became only
the fifth cricketer to notch up two centuries in a single season of IPL. Last
week, Rajasthan Royal’s Jos Buttler scored a 61-ball hundred against Kolkata
Knight Riders to achieve the record but after scoring his third ton of the
season, he is now triumphing for another milestone that is held by Virat Kohli,
the most centuries in a single in IPL.

Among the cricketers who scored two centuries in a single season of IPL
are Chris Gayle (2011), Hashim Amla (2017), Shane Watson (2018) and Shikhar
Dhawan (2020). Rahul is the fifth member of this elite list.

The KL-Rahul-led is currently placed fourth on the points table with 10
points from eight games. They won five matches and lost three.

In the match between both these sides, Lucknow Super Giants batted first
and posted 168/6 in 20 overs, owing to Rahul’s hundred. In his knock, Rahul
smashed 12 fours and 4 sixes.
