The Gujarat Titans bought Dominic Drakes for Rs 1.10 crore and Jayant Yadav for Rs 1.70 crore on Day 2 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction in Bangalore on Sunday to complete their squad for their maiden appearance in the IPL. 

The third buy for the team was Vijay Shankar for Rs 1.40 crore.

The team shelled out Rs 10 crore for New Zealand seamer Lockie Ferguson on day 1 on Saturday. 

Ferguson was the Titians’ second pick of the auction, after signing Indian pacer Mohammed Shami for Rs 6.25 crore. The CVC-group also bought explosive English opener Jason Roy, for a relatively cheap price of Rs 2 crore, and secured all-rounder Rahul Tewatia for Rs 9 crore.

The Titans bought a total of seven players – Noor Ahmad (Rs 30 lakh), Jason Roy (Rs 2 crore), Mohammad Shami (Rs 6.25 crore), Rahul Tewatia (Rs 9 crore), Abhinav Sadarangani (Rs 2.6 crore), Lockie Ferguson (Rs 10 crore), R Sai Kishore (Rs 3 crore). 

The franchise now have Rs 18.5 crore left to spend on a maximum of 15 more additions to the squad.

The Gujarat Titans, one of the two new franchises to take part in this year’s edition, came into the auction with a total purse value of Rs 52 crore. The Ahmedabad-based franchise had selected Hardik Pandya (Rs 15 crore), Rashid Khan (Rs 15 crore) and Shubman Gill (Rs 8 crore) as their draft picks. 

Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan and Deepak Chahar clinched the most eye-popping deals as India’s battle-hardened T20 exponents laughed their way to the bank on the opening day of IPL mega-auction where the franchises saved their highest bids for home-grown talent.

Kishan’s Rs 15.25 crore winning bid from Mumbai Indians pipped the Rs 14 crore figure that CSK offered to retain Deepak Chahar on Saturday. Franchises showed prudence in overall spending but didn’t hesitate to loosen the purse strings for proven performers, especially Indians.

In terms of US Dollars, there were 20 million-plus buys, the biggest by far at any IPL auction with most of the beneficiaries being Indian T20 specialists.
