Sunrisers Hyderabad handed Chennai Super Kings their fourth consecutive loss by defeating the four-time champions by 8 wickets in the 17th match of the 2022 Indian Premier League in Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium on Saturday.
Sent to bat first, Ravindra Jadeja-led CSK scored 154 for 7, with Moeen Ali top-scoring for the side with a 48 off 35 deliveries. Jadeja hit a quickfire 15-ball-23 towards the end to prop up CSK after they lost consecutive wickets.
In reply, SRH surpassed the target in 17.4 overs. Young all-rounder Abhishek Sharma scored 75 off 50 balls. The 21-year-old took the attack to the opposition with a blistering first IPL half-century which was studded with five fours and three sixes. He also deservingly won the Player of the Match award.
"It was a pressure game for the team and me. I am pretty much lucky to have a team like SRH as they have been very supportive. It's a good start for me and I look forward to score more. They just wanted me to bat naturally and play my strokes. 100% I have been waiting for my bowling. Whenever I get the situation I am ready for it," Sharma said after the match.
CSK now has to win at least eight out of their remaining 10 games in order to reach the magic figure of 16 points which during past few years is the cut-off for play-off qualifications.
