Gujarat Titans defeated the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022 final to lift the trophy in their maiden season. Skipper Hardik Pandya put up an all-round show and was named the player of the match. 

GT chased a 131-run target with 11 balls and seven wickets to spare. Pandya scored 34 runs in 30 balls. Shubman Gill and David Miller were unbeaten at 45 and 32 respectively.

Pandya, after the match, said that their triumph is something the coming generations will talk about.

“This title is going to be a special one because we talked about creating a legacy. The coming generations will talk about. Everyone will remember this was the team who started this journey and to win the championship first year is very special,” the Gujarat skipper said after the match.

He also opened up about the team’s plans to send him at No 4 this season. Pandya finished as the team’s highest run-scorer. He made 487 runs in 15 games at an average of 44.27 and strike rate of 131.26. 

“When the auction finished, I knew I would have to bat at No. 4,” he said. 

He also spoke about his bowling performance. The 28-year-old led GT’s efforts by taking three wickets for 17 runs in four overs.

Asked about his bowling, he said, “Wanted to show at the right time what I’ve worked hard for. Today was the day from the bowling point of view I saved the best for the best. Second ball of my spell when I got Sanju (Samson) out, saw that if you hit the wicket hard and hit the seam something is gonna (going to) happen.”

“It’s all about sticking to the right lengths, asking the batters to play the right shots,” Pandya said in the post match ceremony on Sunday.
